Growing Tips
Pears have an upright growth habit, resulting in a taller height than apple trees, but with less width. They need well drained soil and full sun to grow well. Pear trees need another pear tree that is a different cultivar in order to cross pollinate and get fruit. Our pears are grown on hardy standard Ussurian rootstock. Pear trees prefer well drained soil with moderate levels of fertility, and thrive best in full sun. It’s important to prune them every year in early spring and clean up fallen fruit and leaves and discard them. We also like to give them compost every year or two and then mulch with woodchips or leaves on top of the compost.
