Growing Tips
You need an American plum or Canada plum to pollinate hybrid plums like Brookgold. An American plum can pollinate up to 5 other plums in the same proximity. Plum trees prefer well drained soil with moderate levels of fertility, and thrive best in full sun. It’s important to prune them every year in early spring and clean up fallen fruit and leaves and discard them. We also like to give them compost every year or two and then mulch with woodchips or leaves on top of the compost.
More about Plum 'Brookgold'
The Brookgold plum was developed in Brooks, Alberta and can survive and thrive in locations as cold as zone 2b. This very cold hardy plum produces delicious small yellow plums with a lovely sweet taste that are excellent for fresh eating and preserves. They are freestone and show good resistance to black knot, a common disease that plagues European plums. They are productive and vigorous and are ready to harvest in August.
