Growing Tips
You need an American plum or Canada plum to pollinate hybrid plums like Sprouts Sunshine. An American plum or Canada plum can pollinate up to 6 other plums in the same proximity. Plum trees prefer well drained soil with moderate levels of fertility, and thrive best in full sun. It’s important to prune them every year in early spring and clean up fallen fruit and leaves and discard them. We also like to give them compost every year or two and then mulch with woodchips or leaves on top of the compost.
More about Plum 'Sprout Sunshine'
Sprout’s Sunshine is an open pollinated seedling developed in an extremely cold region in Alberta, Canada. It has a lovely balance of sweet and tart flavours. It’s skin is a bright, sunny, yellowish green and the flesh is also yellow. These delicious plums are ready to harvest in late August. It has been performing well for us in our location and has experienced zero winter die back. It is self sterile and requires the pollination of an American Plum or Canada plum nearby to produce fruit.
